Reflections allows
you to mirror or copy your data from one system to
another in real time. This is called Constant Backup
by some but Reflections can go far beyond normal mirroring.
With Reflections you can create and maintain identical
copies of your data on one or more remote servers
regardless if it's on your local LAN or across the
Internet. Reflections uses the proven and secure transport
mechanism of DriveShare to connect the defined remote
servers together.
- Primary
First you install the server and define those folders
that you want to have reflected. It comes by default
to go to the users\ directory though you can change
and add any folders that you want. You select that
you're the primary server and then the host/user/pass
of the remote or secondary server.
- Secondary
You install it on the second server and add a user/pass
and select that you're acting as a secondary or
mirror. Then you define a new directory where you
want the reflected data to appear. By default this
will go into the reflections/ directory. After that
the primary server will start sending data to the
secondary until all of the specified primary directories
are up to date. After that the primary server will
send updates each time the user saves or updates
data into those defined directories.
- Primary? Secondary?
Simply put the primary server is the server you're
copying from and the secondary is that which you're
copying to. However, once the initial copy is done
you can modify files on the secondary and it will
update the primary. Also, if the same file is open
on the primary and secondary and you attempt to
save the file the primary server will take precedence
and its file will be written.
