DriveShare comes
in four different editions, Personal, Professional,
Corporate and Enterprise.
These product editions cover a
wide range of use from the home to a large corporation.
Additional license packs to add users are available
for each. Currently only the Personal Edition has
been released, the other four should be release by
mid year 2009.
Personal Edition -- $49.00
Elegant in its simplicity, the Personal
Edition of DriveShare allows you to have three simultaneous
connections of any type, to your server. It's very
simple to use and offers you a way to add users, create
groups of users, and connect to the Rendezvous service
and to other hosts. This is perfect for the home/hobbyist
type of users that just need something that works.
Of course you can always add one or more user license
packs to get additional user.
Professional Edition -- $99.00 (coming soon)
The Professional Edition adds a
few security features to those included with the Personal
Edition including token support, access security and
IP firewall. It also includes advanced options for
dismounting your drives.
Security Tokens
Security tokens offer more security
options. The Professional Edition of DriveShare supports
physical security tokens. A physical security token
is a device that contains a key that cannot be copied
out of the device.
Some ways that you can use a physical security token
include:
- Use one as an emergency access mechanism.
Store it in a secure place and if you ever forget
your password, the token can let you back in.
- Protect the token with a short PIN number.
Even if someone looks over your shoulder and captures
your PIN number, it's useless to them without the
token.
- Store all your DriveShare authorizations
in one token and protect them all with a single password
or PIN number.
Load DriveShare onto the token along with authorizations.
With one simple USB device, you can install DriveShare
and access all your shares securely. Mail or give
it to a friend, coworker, or family member and it
will install DriveShare and walk them through accessing
their folders instantly. If lost or stolen, it is
useless without the PIN number, and you can revoke
or change its authorization easily if necessary.
Access Security Requirements
DriveShare can be configured with
additional security. This allows you to have the mounted
drive or directory unmount (detach) or prompt for
a password when:
- A specific time has been reached.
- The screen saver activates.
- No activity has been detected.
- A Hot-Key is pressed.
- The drive is unmounted.
- The token is removed.
Your data is important and this feature will allow
you to protect your mounted resources when you leave
your computer. If you're at a cyber-cafe or have roommates,
or any time your computer may be accessed by others,
you can use the above security settings to detach
or protect your resources.
IP Firewall
This will allow you to work on an
inclusive or exclusive access scheme. Basically you
can specify that the entire Internet is blocked from
your server with the exception of the access masks
you provide. Or, you can block out those IP ranges
that concern you. This has an easy to use interface
and doesn't require any real advanced knowledge.
Corporate Edition
As an MIS manager with a growing
population of staff that now works solely from home,
you need to update specific software to systems on
diverse networks. Add to this that most drive resource
sharing doesn't work off a local LAN and add in the
requirements for encryption and security and you have
a huge headache. DriveShare deployed throughout your
corporation will allow you to deploy software and
have a central repository for your information. This
allows you to manage and secure your network while
using your available tools for backups.
The Corporate Edition has all of the features of the
Professional Edition but increases the allowed users
to 100. You can purchase additional license packs
to increase that number.
Reports
Additional Reports including access
log by both user and files they've accessed.
Enterprise Edition
The Enterprise Edition is designed
for companies that have a large quantity of users
and wish to interconnect DriveShare with existing
resources or user management. The Enterprise Edition
has all the features of the Corporate Edition but
is licensed on a per machine basis allowing unlimited
users for each machine.
External Methods
The Enterprise Edition of DriveShare
supports an interface to allow custom code to interface
with the server directly. For UNIX platforms, the
custom code must be supplied in the form of a shared
object (.so) file. For WIN32 platforms, the custom
code must be supplied in the form of a DLL file.
HTPPS/CGI
DriveShare will also allow you to
authorize users and shares by use of https. When a
user tries to access the server it will make a query
to a defined web server and get the authorization
as well as the shares that the users are allowed to
view.
Custom Views
Probably the single most powerful
feature of the Enterprise Edition is that you can
create custom views that you can then attach to groups.
This means that instead of having to share each directory
tree you can put together several trees to make a
custom view that is exported to the users after authentication.
ISP Edition
Are you an ISP? Tired of support
calls from users that have problems transferring pictures,
music and HTML files to your servers? Get tired of
explaining how to edit, save, pull up another application
to transfer and save their documents to their website?
Wouldn't it be nice to have them just drag and drop
it into what looks like a local drive? So even if
their website is hosted on a Linux you can still make
their /www directory appear as a local drive on their
system. DriveShare will reduce the quantity of support
calls and increase customer service. And isn't keeping
a customer really the most important part of your
business?
Additional Capabilities
When you add on additional Vivatech
software the features and capabilities of each expand.
- CryptoFS
When used with CryptoFS you can
communicate to the secure file system on the remote
machine. When CFS is authenticated remotely the
local system does not have access to the information,
only the remote system that provided the proper
credentials. This allows you to securely mount and
access data from your office or home that is using
an encrypted file system. Only the combination of
both systems will allow this type of exceptional
security. Other systems would require that you mount
the drive on a system and then share it. Since DriveShare
talks to CryptoFS using an internal secure protocol
the remote system will not have any access to the
data.
- Reflections
When used with Reflections you
will be able to it will allow you to remotely log
into your files on the remote Reflections server.
This can be very useful when your main system is
turned off or has suffered a drive failure. Imagine
always having secure access to your files no matter
what happens to your system. Vivatech will shortly
be offering a constant file backup system using
DriveShare, Reflections and CryptoFS and this will
not only backup your files to a cryptographically
secure partition but allow you instant access to
any of your files. Of course, you don't need us
to provide this service as you can just as easily
get two complete sets of applications and do this
with any of your friends that have adequate space
and bandwidth.
